The monks...
At Quarr Abbey (Nr. Ryde) were given the plot of land, known as the
land of Sheat or Sete, with Grange Farm on in the early 15th century.
In 1628…
King Charles I sold the land as part of Arreton Manor to the City
of London and it subsequently followed the descent of Arreton.
Since then...
Grange Farm has belonged to many people but the estate has
gradually reduced in size due to acres being sold off separately and land has
been lost to the sea.

Lifeboats…
A lifeboat station was built at Grange Chine in 1860. The first
lifeboat stationed here was called the Rescue. The lifeboat station
closed in 1915 due to improved technologies.
Between the two world wars...
The lifeboat station served as a beach café until an explosive
bomb early in the Second World War demolished it.

St. Mary’s Church…
Is built mainly of local stone and is of Norman origin, with later
additions.
Brighstone Primary School…
Has existed since 1836 on its present site. The bell tower is a
distinctive original feature of the school.

Brighstone…
Has a history dating back to the 9th century when King Egburt gave
it to the Bishoprick of Winchester.
The first Roman villa was discovered at Rock in Brighstone.
The Post Office…
And its adjoining cottages, now the museum, National Trust Shop and
dwellings, have been previously used as a village library, doctors’ surgery
and wartime refreshment place for soldiers based on the south coast.
Was universally known for his hard work in the movement to
free the
slaves in America.
Brixton…
Was the original name for Brighstone and was pronounced
‘Briseton’ by the natives.

Brighstone Bay…
Has been used for many activities in the past e.g. illegal
smuggling of liquor from the continent, and in the year of 1860 a R.N.L.I.
Station was established at Grange Chine, as shipwrecks were common due to stormy
weather and offshore rock ledges.

Making up paths (tarmac) for 2007 around playground & main routes around site, New 6 berth Static Caravans for 2007, now with central heating. Haybarn Barn Conversion has a new kitchen, upstairs shower etc. Some new Carpets in the Cabin Barn conversion etc. |

New large shop, nearly twice as big as the old one (even more shelves to fill!) some extra wardrobes and general work in the Barn Conversions, Cabin veranda changed, making the patio larger, New Bandstand type outside shower! also improved coastal path route. |

Refurbished main Camping toilet block (cubicle's/tiles, toilet's etc), also replaced all of the old Static Caravans now, we mainly have 12 foot wide 8 berths now, also added some extra electric hook-ups, picnic tables and more seating to playground. |

Added more menus "Winter, Grange Farm History, Isle of Wight links & a site map of the website" also updated some photos and added a few new ones! |
Replaced most of the Caravans on the front row, this
took quite a long time, now added larger 8 berth Static Caravans, added
2 more slides on a climbing frame and extended the playground, with an
extra boy swing, we are now using a computer booking system, new to
us anyway (eek!) |

some new carpets in some areas, larger bedroom in Cabin. |

New showerblock (replacing the old end unit) now we
have toilet, handbasin wider cubicals, fold down seats in showers etc,
also added the Klinker boat to the play
area, re-tarmac`ed the path onto the lifeboat station (onto Static
Caravan area). |

We now can book the ferry for out customers using Wightlink or Redfunnel Ferries. Added New shower block behind our other toilet blocks (giving over twice as many showers) converted the bath/shower block, to larger rooms for disabled unit (no handles yet - so its still a family room.) extra note (maybe be ready for 2004 as we had some hold-backs) Now take most credit cards! |
